2020 Writing Exam Dates
The Writing Exam is administered online and will be offered during two exam windows this summer. All students are assigned to take the Writing Exam in the June Exam Window. Students who are unable to take the placement exam during those June dates due to unavoidable conflict may petition to take the Writing Exam during the Make-up Exam Window in July.
- The June Exam Window will open on Monday, June 1 at 10 a.m. and close on Thursday, June 18 at 2 p.m. (all times are Eastern Daylight Time).
- Students may petition to be reassigned to the Make-up Exam Window, which will open on Wednesday, July 8 at 10 a.m. and close on Wednesday, July 15 at 2 p.m. (all times are Eastern Daylight Time). To submit that petition, please see the details below.
Since the placement exam is online, you will be able to access the Writing Exam anywhere you have an Internet connection. You may log in at any time during the June Exam Window and begin the exam.
Please note that in order to receive the benefit of the full 72 hours to read and write, you should pay attention to the following dates:
- Students taking the exam in the originally assigned June Exam Window should begin the exam no later than Monday, June 15 at 10 a.m. Students who log in to receive the reading and the prompt after June 10 will still need to complete the exam before it closes on June 18; they will have fewer than 72 hours in which to complete the exam.
- Students taking the exam in the Make-up Exam Window should begin the exam no later than Sunday, July 12 at 10 a.m. Students who log in to receive the readings and the prompt after July 13 will still need to complete the exam before it closes on July 15; they will have fewer than 72 hours in which to complete the exam.
Petitions to Change Exam Windows
If you are unable to take the exam during the June Exam Window, you may petition to take the exam during the Make-up Exam Window. To petition for reassignment to the July Exam Window, please go to the Online Placement Exams Registration Application. There you will find the necessary information to petition for a reassignment.
All students are expected to take their summer placement exams during the available dates. In exceptional circumstances, the Writing Program may grant extensions to students who have legitimate unavoidable conflicts with both the June and Make-up Exam Windows for the Writing Exam.
